Heavy traffic was everywhere on the last day of the school holidays. Heavy rain added to the joys of driving.
We decided to head to the Lizard which has some great views, but we didn't get out of the car in heavy rain. Nearby is Mullion Cove where we spent a memorable Chistmas 37 years ago with Sandy and Lola at the Poldhu Hotel. Luckily the rain stopped for us to take a photo, but couldn't visit as it now an aged care facility (might ask if we can get in). The Surf School in the cove looked a little quiet and forlorn!
As the rain eased we made a detour to Cadgwith, a tiny fishing village, where we walked down a wet and steep track. A nice authentic place that heralded the return of sunshine.
Next stop was St Michaels Mount near Penzance, where we were greeted with overflowing car parks and thousands of tourists. Thankfully it proved far less commercialised than the French counterpart. We enjoyed a tour by a guy who has lived and worked there for 15 years. Didn't learn much about the castle, but plenty about his house, family and friends.
Drive back was another traffic battle that required a small medicinal visit to our local "The White Hart" in St. Austell before heading back to the lovely Charlestown to watch the sun go down.
