Down to Cornwall - Day 9

The sun has reappeared for our drive down to Cornwall. After another nice breakfast we were sad to leave Brindleys and Bath on such a nice day.
The drive proved a little harder than imagined, as the early route along A roads was pretty narrow and with lots of choices at roundabouts. Gail had to keep awake the whole way to read the map and give quick directions. We decided to plot a route to join the M5 and once on it we were able to cruise at 75 mph (120k) making sure we got out of the right lane for the fast traffic!
Our lunch stop was the little fishing village of Polperro. We remember fondly our stay there 37 years ago. It was a quiet and atmospheric smugglers cove and a little B & B was really nice to us.
Our first surprise was the huge car park and a large tour bus disgorging pensioners. The second was the number of fast food joints and souvenir shops on the walk down to the harbour. Just proves that sometimes you should let happy memories stay just that.
After a little difficulty finding our B&B in St. Austell, and a little cuppa to settle the nerves, we went a little way down the street to the World Heritage listed Charlestown for a late afternoon drink at the Pier House to watch the sun go down. The little harbour, sail boats and surrounding houses have been used in many shows, including the recent "Poldark" series.
Dinner in "Wreckers" was highlighted by Gail's mixed fish grill that contained most of the local fresh fish varieties. We resolved to spend each evening in Charlestown doing the rounds of the local establishments.
